Shingles Right Before the Wedding! Yikes!!!
Because we don’t have enough going on here with a daughter starting her freshman year and moving to college and another one getting married; I guess we needed a little more “excitement”! Or maybe my youngest just needs a little more attention. . . seriously, there are better ways of getting it!
Thought it was just a rash. Oops!
#4 has Hashimoto’s disease, she was diagnosed just before her eleventh birthday, 3ish years ago. There are sometimes rashes and other things that come along when the hormones aren’t quite regulated right. So, when she broke out in this awful rash and it wasn’t getting any better. In fact, it was looking worse. I took a picture and posted it on a thyroid page I follow and asked if anyone knew what it was or had experienced it before. Within a couple of hours lots of people had commented and the large majority thought it looked like shingles.
Confirmation of Shingles
Lovely! The wedding is a little more than a month away and counting down. How contagious is this? My poor stressed bride broke down in tears; worried that she might get shingles. We rushed to our doctor the next morning who confirmed she does, indeed, have shingles.
What to do now. . .
We have a wonderful office we go to that does a mixture of homeopathic and regular medicine. She told us how to care for it and how to lessen it spreading to everyone.
I feel so bad, every time we get lax on #4’s vitamin regiment she gets some illness and it’s really bad. They were surprised that she has so many places affected by it. Usually, it just shows up on one dermal surface; she has 3! So, we are back to doing her vitamin regiment and trying to be really diligent with it! The doctor stressed a good basic multiple vitamin. We do Bio-35 the one with the green lid that is gluten free. Bio-35 100ct Gluten-Free
Medication and More
Besides the prescription for medication from the pharmacy (Valacyclovir (Sandoz, Mylan, Greenstone, Teva, Watson), she recommended L-lysine to help her with her healing and L-Theanine for anxiety. She recommended my stressed bride also take L-Theanine as well as some other supplements.
I then asked her if she knew of any essential oils that would help. My stressed bride works for DoTerra; we are a mixed oil family. I sell Ameo essential oils; clicking on the essential oils links will open in a new tab and take you to where I sell them. We gave both of my daughters DoTerra OnGuard plus soft gels. The rest of the family is taking Proshield beadlets.
Oils we put on her skin
Then, for her skin she recommended oregano, melaleuca and DoTerra OnGuard essential oils which we substituted for Ameo’s Proshield. (If they have sensitive skin you may want to add a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil..) For pain pain we used True Lavender. We drop a drop or 2 of each oil onto her skin and swab it around with a Q-tip.
We are frequently washing her towels and clothes in hot water and separately from everyone else’s laundry. We wiped down the whole house especially door knobs, light switches, keyboards, remotes and railings.
I have been amazed with how quickly she has been healing and she doesn’t have intense pain, like I have heard other people talk about. She’s less itchy since taking the medication the doctor gave us a prescription and then everything else that was recommended.
I am diffusing spruce and lemon. Spruce and lemon oil are both good for supporting the immune system and they smell good, too.
Results
This is after 4 days of oils, medication, and supplements. She hasn’t noticed much oozing either. She said it sometimes feels a little painful and then she feels moist, but when she looks at it, it looks scabby not oozy. I haven’t seen any oozing, like I thought we would.
Yeah! No one else got it, the wedding was wonderful and my youngest healed quickly and relatively painlessly from this bout with the Shingles. I feel so blessed!
