Our wedding anniversary cake tradition was in the plan, before we had our wedding. I really wanted the engraved knife and serving set to have at our wedding. My mom wasn’t on board, because you only use it once. I came up with a plan for using it (29 times, to date). It is a wonderful tradition and we have been able to share our anniversary, the start of our marriage and family, together with our kids, every year!
The Anniversary Cake
Our wedding cake was white with raspberry filling and decorated with pink and blue flowers. So, every year we try to have a white cake with raspberry filling and decorated with pink and blue flowers. It hasn’t always been possible to get close to that cake. One year it was chocolate and that is okay.
It was harder when I was first diagnosed with celiac, to find gluten free alternatives. We are so lucky to have a bakery near us that does gluten free well! I was able to get this gluten free cake from Avenue Bakery. (They are not a dedicated gf bakery, but we have never had symptoms from eating things from there.)
Cutting the Cake
We somewhat re-enact cutting the cake. Unfortunately, we usually do it at the end of a long day and I never look my best.
Engraved wedding knife in hand and here we go! I do love this tradition, but even more, I love being married to my best friend.
It is so nice and so much fun to get to share our anniversary with our children in this special way. I hope it is an example to them, that our marriage is important, a priority and our marriage is the foundation of our family.
The Originals!
Here is where we began, as well as the tradition getting started.
